Facing the truth of how you REALLY feel right now is the only way you can shift and change in your acting career and life through these times.

We tend to want to push down our feelings or hide them because it’s easier to barrel through…or let’s be honest, to just watch Netflix. 🙂

It can be a lot to examine the disappointments in our lives. Honestly, there’s a lot of them.

We’ve all lost something right now:

  • Loss of acting work
  • income
  • connection
  • freedom
  • simple pleasures

And on top of that, we tend to look around at other actors and feel everyone is doing better than we are. Then good ole’ shame creeps in.

Feelings of ….

I’m not enough
I’ll never get ahead.
I should be handling this better
I should be handling this like “so and so”

Even if you do push down your disappointments and shame, guess what? They will find some way to leak out and take over unless you acknowledge them and your feelings.

Awareness of how you feel is the first step. And also, taking time to mourn what you feel you lost. Not dwelling on the past or the present, but simply creating space  – to feel your feelings.

In terms of facing Disappointments, ask yourself…
What didn’t pan out as you had hoped?
What have you missed out on that you were looking forward to?
Where do you feel like a failure?

In terms of shame, ask yourself…
Where do you feel unworthy?
Where do you feel not enough?
Where do your perceived ‘failures’ bring about a feeling of undeservedness?

The biggest thing here to remember is to have compassion for yourself. ❤️

By honestly assessing how you’re feeling, you can start to see where you need to shift your approach or your mindset in this new normal. And it gives you a starting point to be super clear on what you desire and what your priorities are.

Do yourself a favor and begin the summer with an emotional clean slate. So get out that journal, turn on some meditation music, or call your best friend and dig deep to let go.
