Are actors being prepared for the industry by their training programs?

A survey of 176 actors globally — representing decades of industry experience — revealed a clear and urgent gap in training.

Global Training Programs Must Do Better

While actor training programs excel at teaching craft, today’s graduates are telling a different story about the business of acting. They’re entering the industry without the business knowledge they need to build sustainable careers.

Business Training = Being Emotionally Prepared

Words like “lost,” “overwhelmed,” and “no idea what to do” appeared again and again in open-text responses in our survey.

Many alumni believe that proper business education would have made a significant difference to their careers. Some said it would have “changed everything.”

The Real Gaps in Actor Training:

Branding - 58% never received branding training
 Marketing- 67% lacked marketing skills
Goal Setting - 75% weren’t taught goal or productivity skills
Social Media - 81% didn’t receive strategy guidance
Networking - 61% never learned networking strategies
Mindset - 72% missed out on mindset training
Pitching - 79% never practiced self-promotion or pitching

There Is an Urgent Need for Change

Business training is more than a missing module - it’s a missing safety net.
Actors need more than talent to build sustainable, fulfilling careers. They need strategy, structure, and systems.
