Stop taking yourself out of the equation in your life, by giving other people in this industry the power. No one else can define you and hand you the trajectory of your career. That is up to you! Take ownership of your career and own your value! ✨️Rule #2 Stop being Vague Be specific about who you are and what stories you tell. Don’t let vagueness keep people at a distance because they can’t get an understanding of who you are. A confused mind will always say no. Be specific in who you are and what you want. ✨️Rule #3 Stop Playing it Safe The human brain is hardwired to protect you and keep you safe. That means you’re prone to stay in your comfort zone. You must allow yourself to take risks and put yourself out there in a new and creative way. Open for 5 Ways to Overcome Your Fear of Rejection Open for 5 Ways to Overcome Your Fear of Rejection by shifting your mindset. Let’s get right to it - you will face rejection in your acting career. That’s just the truth. It’s vital to be able to shift your mindset into one of abundance and not lack. So how can you overcome fear of rejection? 💫Know that it’s not personal. Even though it seems like it’s personal, it never is. Getting clear on who you are, your value system, and your worth as an artist is vital to not take things personally. 💫Every “NO” is one step closer to a “YES” Rejection is a temporary setback. It actually carves out the space to call in the YESES! 💫You’re not a failure if your career isn’t where you thought it’d be. Your productivity or perceived successes does not equal your worth. We’re always striving for that next level in our acting careers. That’s a fact. ✨️ Make sure to also focus on what you HAVE accomplished, not just what you WANT to accomplish. 💫Don’t fixate on WHY you were rejected. There are so many reasons why you may be passed on for a role. You could look too similar to another actor, you could have a quality that draws attention to you rather than the lead, you could be so perfect for a project that casting knows is down the pike and if you get this one you’ll miss that one. ✨️ The WHY doesn’t matter. What matters is you’re in the game. 💫Everyone, and I mean everyone, has been rejected in this industry at some point in time. Think of it as an even emotional playing field…though it does feel a bit like hazing at times. 😊 EVERYONE has been rejected. Multiple times! Want to steal my proven self-tape recording method Want to steal my proven self-tape recording method I used to book roles with networks like Netflix, Hulu, and my most recent booking at FOX? Aside from my acting, here are the 4 things I focus on to set myself up for callbacks and bookings: 1️⃣ Script placement I do my best to be off book as best I can as it allows me to feel freer and more spontaneous. AND I want to make sure the script is there if I need it. I use a computer table that I can raise up and down that even allows me to prop the script at an angle. It’s right in front of me so I can scoop my eyes down and pick up a line if and when I need it. Never hold the script! It breaks the illusion. I’m also exploring the teleprompter route for longer scripts ;) 2️⃣ Eyelines Speaking of illusion, I set my eyelines before recording so I know who I’m talking to and where to look. It makes the scene feel more real to me as opposed to just using my reader’s eyes. 3️⃣ Lighting Before shooting, I make sure the lighting is on point and my eyes are the focus. I have marks on the floor for where I always set my 3 point lighting, that way I’m not recreating the wheel. 4️⃣ Clothes After breaking down the script, I decide on my outfit. What can give the essence and vibe of the character without feeling too costume-y. It helps me understand who the character is and their POV and psychology before choosing an outfit so I’m not making it generic. I also love mantras when I feel my brain wanting to spiral in a negative direction. ✨️I am open to new experiences Our lives shape the art that we create. Being open to new and exciting things can deepen your connection both to yourself and your craft. ✨️I am worthy of telling stories If you’ve got a voice, then we want to hear it. You deserve to share your stories with the world. Never let anyone tell you different. ✨️I deserve to make a living from my art Artists deserve the money they make. We’ve seen a lot of discourse during this strike from the general public telling us to “get a real job,” or “learn to code.” Art is a real job, and you deserve to make money from the emotional and creative labor that you put into your work. ✨️I play in every audition and share who I am Sometimes building a character for an audition or for work can turn into a rigid, need to get it done, need to book this! There is so much room to play and show casting who you are. Embrace that, your talent, and your POV. ✨️I’m exactly on track for where I desire to be It’s easy to fall into the compare and despair game of this industry. You’re not meant to compare your work or progress to others.
