A casting director looks at your headshot and makes decisions fast: Who are you? Where do you fit? What makes you memorable? Most actors spend their careers trying to prove they can play anything. That’s the problem.
The industry won't take the time to figure you out. Your brand shows them exactly where you belong. THE ACTOR’S BRAND is the step-by-step framework to do just that.

Booking the job isn't the finish line. It's the start of the
next one.
Most actors snap a few selfies on set, post once, and move on. But one booking can keep working for you long after it airs. This checklist walks you through what to do from the moment you get the call to the moment your work comes out, and beyond. You'll know what to ask before you sign, who to thank, and how to keep sharing your news so the industry sees who you are. Includes ready-to-use templates.

Celebrate the release of The Actor's Brand with me, live on Zoom, on Tuesday, November 10th.
You get a seat because you showed up early. Come hang out with me and casting director Caroline Liem, who wrote the foreword. Bring your questions for this Q&A about branding, casting, and what the industry is really looking for, and be there the day this book goes out into the world. Hey there! I’m Jodie Bentley, an NYU Tisch-trained actor and producer who has worked for Netflix, Hulu, ABC, CBS and many more. Since 2008, I’ve coached actors to achieve their goals, become organizational masters, stop the self-sabotage, build their marketing tools, land agents and own their brand.
I totally get being frustrated. When I graduated NYU, I had no clue what I was doing when it came to the business side of the biz. My results were fairly good… but random and rare.
I was missing something, but didn't know what. I was so sick of not knowing exactly what to do that I read every freakin’ business book I could get my hands on.
Then the light bulb moment - I'm a product! I started taking branding principles that worked in the real world and morphed them for our creative profession.
I built my brand authentically, smartly and holistically.
Within 6 months, I got my Actors Equity card, my first theatrical agent, an Off-Broadway show, and I got to do the cast recording with Stephen Schwartz. I finally understood who I was in the industry.
With The Actor's Brand, now you will too.
Years
That I've been a career coach for actors.
Actors

You’ve trained. You show up prepared. You know you’re good. But somewhere along the way, you started trying to be whatever you thought they wanted. You changed your headshots, rewrote your bio, and said yes to every type. And the harder you tried to fit everywhere, the harder you became to place.
The Actor’s Brand isn’t about squeezing yourself into a type. It’s about knowing exactly who you are, so the industry finally sees it too.
And this isn’t a book you read once and put on a shelf. It works like a course, with step-by-step lessons, hands-on exercises, and free downloadable worksheets and trackers. You won’t just walk away with ideas. You’ll walk away with your Branding Chart, your branding statement, and a plan for your headshots.

With a foreword by casting director Caroline Liem, Casting Society
“Every time I hear Jodie talk about the business of acting, I steal a nugget to share with my own students. Her step-by-step approach is brilliant, and her calm, matter-of-fact guidance comes from someone who has truly walked the walk. You’ll want to steal from her magnificent brain, too.”

Lisa Zambetti
CSA, 3X Artios-Nominated Casting Director, Casting for Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
“Twenty years in and the actors I come back to aren’t the ones chasing what they think casting wants. They’re the ones who know what they bring and deliver it every time. This book is about becoming that actor.”

Christy Faison
Casting Director for The Newsroom, Stargate Origins, and The Walking Dead: Red Machete
“Jodie does something rare; she dispels the myth that branding is somehow limiting or a
bad thing for actors. From where I sit as a casting director, when I can tell instantly from
a headshot and resume where an actor fits, I’m able to bring them in for far more
opportunities, not fewer. Jodie’s work gives actors that clarity.”

Bella Hibbs
Owner at Good Faith Casting, Casting Director for Daddy Daughter Trip, Paul’s Promise, and Monogamy
“Jodie understands that an actor’s brand isn’t about becoming something you’re not—it’s about recognizing your authentic self and knowing how to communicate that clearly and confidently. Her firsthand experience as an actor, combined with her incredible business savvy and unwavering dedication to helping actors succeed, makes The Actor’s Brand an invaluable resource for any actor looking to build a lasting career.”

Jami Rudofsky
CSA, Casting Director for Gilmore Girls, Masters of Sex, and Grown Ups 2
“From an agent’s perspective, an actor who understands their brand has a real advantage. Jodie helps actors identify what makes them uniquely castable and teaches them how to communicate it clearly without losing themselves. Her guidance is practical, specific, and immediately useful.”

Ofelia Habelt
Talent Agent at Johnson Talent Agency
“This book is a MUST-READ for every actor who is serious about building their career. Jodie doesn't just inspire you—she hands you the exact blueprint: the branding, the strategy, and the business mindset most actors never get taught. She bridges the gap between the actor stuck dreaming of 'someday' and the actor who becomes a working professional with a doable roadmap. Stop waiting for your career to catch up to your talent. Get this book now and start living the career you always dreamed of.”

Kimberly Jentzen
Award-Winning Acting Coach, Director, and Author of Acting with Impact
“After doing Jodie’s branding work, I landed an agent and had 22 auditions in seven weeks. I went on to book episodes of This Is Us and Love, Victor.”

Chris Doubek
Actor in This Is Us, Babylon, and Winning Time
“I was coming out as non-binary, and Jodie’s work gave me the encouragement to be my authentic self. Since then, I’ve signed with a manager, secured commercial and theatrical reps, and booked work including a lead in an LGBTQ+ short film.”

Howland Wilson
Actor in Atlas and Hacks
“Jodie helped me get clear on my brand and align my materials. I quickly signed with a new manager and, less than ten months later, was shooting a feature with Morgan Freeman and Cole Hauser. After moving to Europe, I adapted the strategy and kept booking.”

Luke Stratte-McClure
Actor in The Ritual Killer, FBI: International and Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War!
“I've been in this business a while and had a pretty good idea of who I was and thought I knew a lot. But damn, she really put a new spin on it. Each exercise is so brilliantly laid out and geared to you getting clearer on who you are in this business.”

Rahnuma Panthaky
Actor in Grey’s Anatomy, Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, and Dog Man
“Jodie gave me my power back. I got clear on my brand, created headshots that finally feel like me, and started targeting the roles I want to play. I even booked a recurring role in a new series.”

Dina Najjar
Award-Winning Actor and Filmmaker; 2024 Golden Door International Film Festival Best Actress Winner in The Refugee; Recurring Role in All the Sinners Bleed
“Jodie’s branding process was a game changer. The biggest shift was the confidence to market myself knowing my worth and direct my career where I wanted it to go. By expanding my network and marketing more effectively, I doubled my yearly income.”

Loveday Smith
Actor and Voice Artist in Hunter Street, Bookish, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
You don’t have to change who you are to get cast. You have to own it.
Every headshot, every self-tape, and every email to a rep is already telling the industry who you are, whether you mean it to or not. When you’re clear, all of it starts working together, and the right rooms start opening.
The Actor’s Brand shows you how to see what makes you castable and show it with confidence. This is a long game, and it starts with one clear step.
